the royal cresent
Chapter is currently developing proposals for the enhancement of the communal entrance and staircase within a Grade I listed building on Bath's iconic Royal Crescent. The catalyst for the project is the marketing of two apartments within the property. Chapter’s role is to elevate the arrival experience and strengthen the identity of the shared spaces, ensuring the quality and significance of the architecture is reflected from the moment of entry.
Working within the constraints of the historic fabric, the proposals explore a series of decorative and architectural interventions designed to introduce warmth, refinement, and visual continuity throughout the stair hall. These include a revised lighting strategy, decorative wall treatments, bespoke moulding details, carefully considered artwork placement, and a review of materials and finishes to create a more cohesive and memorable journey through the building.
As part of the commission, Chapter is also exploring opportunities to improve natural light levels within the staircase, alongside an initial feasibility study examining the potential to reunite the two apartments into a single residence. The study illustrates the long-term potential of the property while broadening its appeal to prospective purchasers. The project reflects Chapter’s approach to heritage buildings: combining sensitivity to historic architecture with meticulously composed interventions that unlock both architectural and commercial value.
