THE CRAB POT

Chapter was commissioned to create a feasibility study which reconfigures the constrained internal layout of The Crab Pot - a beachside holiday cottage overlooking South Sands in Salcombe, Devon. The brief was to look at the spatial design in terms of creating a more intuitive and comfortable retreat suited for modern family living. Working within a compact footprint, the proposal focused on improving the kitchen, dining and bathroom arrangements while optimising breathtaking views and ensuring spatial flexibility. The interiors were inspired by the surrounding coastline and its sensibilities. Contextually, the space was designed to withstand the demands of a hard-working coastal home and the elements - balancing robust materials and durable finishes with bespoke joinery, layered textures and a relaxed fresh palette.
