Rookes house

Chapter is currently developing proposals for the transformation of the principal living spaces of this private residence in Horsington Village, Somerset. The scheme is centred on the ground floor and focuses on the reconfiguration of the entrance hall and kitchen to better support contemporary family living. Through a comprehensive review of the existing layout, the design introduces a dedicated laundry room, guest cloakroom, separate pantry, and a fully replanned kitchen improving functionality, flow, and everyday usability. A key element of the proposal is the creation of a more generous kitchen space through the opening up of the existing roof structure. The studio has envisioned a pitched ceiling lined with painted timber boards and exposed beams, introducing greater volume, light, a stronger sense of scale and architectural presence. Bespoke joinery is being developed throughout to maximise storage while establishing a highly tailored and cohesive interior language. Alongside the architectural proposals, Chapter is developing the furniture layout for the drawing room and leading the sourcing and procurement of FF&E to create a considered and comfortable living environment. The commission also includes a wider master planning exercise for the property, exploring the long-term potential of the grounds through the reorganisation of the driveway and circulation routes, alongside proposals for a future pool house and outdoor swimming pool. Together, these interventions establish a clear vision for the ongoing evolution of the property.
